Experimenting with transitional and participatory urban planning in the context of major urban projects<\/h2>\n

Since 2020, urbaMonde, Gret, urbaSEN, and Cabanon Vertical have been collaborating to animate and develop an international network of partners engaged in urban innovation initiatives, called Urban Fabric Initiatives.<\/b><\/p>\n

This partnership was born out of an experimental approach carried out in Tunisia and Burkina Faso (Ouagadougou) to support local project owners and civil society in exploring new ways of creating urban space.<\/p>\n

It is part of a four-year multi-country programme, which consists of the animation of this network of actors around participatory and transitional urbanism; a funding window for new urban nursery projects; and monitoring and evaluation in partnership with the IRD (Institut de Recherche pour le D\u00e9veloppement).<\/p>\n

With its partners,\u00a0urbaMonde is in charge of steering and coordinating the network, accompanying and supporting the implementation of six to eight urban incubators, and communicating and capitalising on the urban incubator approach<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The first year of this programme saw the setting up of the network\u2019s secretariat, the installation of two new urban nurseries (Dakar and Abidjan), the meeting of stakeholders (nurserymen, project managers, civil society, etc.) and the setting up of exchange activities (the Network\u2019s virtual meetings) and the sharing of knowledge and experience on co-design (diagnoses) and co-construction (micro-developments) mechanisms.<\/p>\n

The Dakar Urban Fabric Initiative<\/h2>\n

The Dakar Urban Fabric Initiative sees the emergence of transitional facilities, conceived and designed by users, along the lines of the urban transport system currently under construction.<\/p>\n

Through a process of experimentation, the facilities and activities deployed around the selected sites – halts, stations, and suburban stations in Dakar – aim to improve the quality and appropriation of future urban public transport facilities by users and residents.<\/p>\n

Urban Fabric Initiatives Network<\/h2>\n

The animation of the Urban Fabric Initiatives Network – funded by the AFD – is intended to accompany the Urban Fabric Initiatives by developing and coordinating an international network and implementing exchange and expertise activities.<\/p>\n
