{"id":4013,"date":"2025-07-14T14:03:39","date_gmt":"2025-07-14T12:03:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/preview.urbamonde.org\/?p=4013"},"modified":"2025-10-16T14:10:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T12:10:06","slug":"urgency-solidarity-and-resilience-urbamonde-on-mission-in-togo-and-benin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/en\/urgency-solidarity-and-resilience-urbamonde-on-mission-in-togo-and-benin\/","title":{"rendered":"Urgency, Solidarity, and Resilience: urbaMonde on Mission in Togo and Benin"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"spip\">Between humanitarian emergency and local dynamics, initiatives for decent housing are gaining momentum in West Africa.<\/h2>\n<p>From Togo to Benin, through Senegal and across West Africa, a growing movement is taking shape: that of residents organising to claim their right to decent, sustainable, and affordable housing.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, urbaMonde travelled to Togo and Benin for a mission filled with meetings, discussions, and shared perspectives with the project partners of \u00ab\u00a0<a class=\"spip_out\" href=\"https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/en\/support-for-the-participatory-project-to-improve-the-habitat-of-the-informal-settlements-of-boassa-in-burkina-faso\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\">Living and Thriving in Informal Settlements<\/a>\u00ab\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A first forum to unite actors working on emergency housing in the Francophone world<\/strong><br class=\"autobr\" \/>First highlight: Lom\u00e9, where the very first\u00a0<a class=\"spip_out\" href=\"https:\/\/edusup.gouv.tg\/ceremonie-douverture-du-1er-forum-du-reseau-habitat-durgence-francophone-a-lome\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\">Forum of the Francophone Emergency Housing Network<\/a>\u00a0(RHUF) was held \u2014 a groundbreaking gathering that brought together humanitarian organisations, researchers, donors, and practitioners, under the auspices of the African School of Architecture and Urban Planning (EAMAU). For three days, participants shared their experiences to rethink emergency housing assistance in light of common challenges: climate crises, forced displacement, unequal access to land, and increasingly constrained funding.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4006\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4006\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4006 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Jul_25_Forum-Togo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Jul_25_Forum-Togo.png 800w, https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Jul_25_Forum-Togo-300x56.png 300w, https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Jul_25_Forum-Togo-768x144.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4006\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Presentations and models during the conference<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Invited alongside our Senegalese partner urbaSEN, we presented the community savings mechanisms promoted by the Senegalese Federation of Residents, now adopted in seven other West African countries. This solidarity-based approach sparked lively discussions about its potential to strengthen the resilience of populations facing crises, and as a lever for local financing in humanitarian contexts.<\/p>\n<p>These discussions took place during a session dedicated to innovative financing, alongside other initiatives. The challenge was clear: how to sustain housing solutions amid emergencies and budget constraints?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4007\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4007\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4007 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PHOTO-2025-07-03-17-49-41-small.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1000\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PHOTO-2025-07-03-17-49-41-small.jpeg 1000w, https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PHOTO-2025-07-03-17-49-41-small-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/PHOTO-2025-07-03-17-49-41-small-768x432.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4007\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Presentation on the revolving fund by Papa Ameth Keita, urbaSEN<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>A regional momentum underway<\/strong><br class=\"autobr\" \/>On the sidelines of the Forum, urbaMonde facilitated strategic workshops that brought together representatives from the eight member federations of the\u00a0<a class=\"spip_out\" href=\"https:\/\/urbamonde.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/ain-magazine-edition_5-english_20241031_article_confederation_habitants.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\">C8 Federation<\/a>.
