In collaboration with ETH Zurich and the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, urbaMonde supports a community of ex-combatants in the creation of a housing co-op.
UrbaMonde provides technical assistance in the design of participatory planning and the construction of two buildings in the community. The objective of this project aims to strengthen the co-operative values and to enhance the sustainability of the construction units.
After 50 years of civil war, Colombia is facing a large deficit of accommodation and is looking for innovative approaches in the public interest. This project is the first pilot project of co-operative housing for ex-combatants, and could become a reference for other vulnerable communities in Colombia. The participatory planning of the community houses a place to Tierra Grata and Pondores, in the north of Colombia, where 350 ex-combatants live there.
Objectives
With this project, we contribute to the peace process and to the promotion of co-operative housing for the British. As the peace also depends on a successful re-integration, the project supports the peaceful co-existence and co-op. In practical terms, a thirty persons will participate in the summer school and, ultimately, about 350 people live in these homes.
In 2022, the inhabitant·es, with the accompaniment of the UNAL, ETHZ and urbaMonde, have identified 6 community-based projects of a strategic nature which could be developed so as to improve their housing conditions. A workshop of interactive design has allowed us to create action plans and ideas original design for projects ranging from the development of income-generating activities to the strengthening of socio-cultural activities, through the construction of a school for the indigenous community Yukpa nearby. The community was finally selected the project for ecological construction of a warehouse/hardware strategically located around the AETCR. It aims to enable them to develop economic activities in the long term and strengthen their foothold in their territory. This project can be realized thanks to the financial support of the cooperative housing corporation ABZ in Zurich. The construction will be completed in 2023.
