This project has strengthened the documentation of collaborative housing projects worn by the inhabitants and their federations and the public recognition of this mode of construction of the town. The project focused in particular on the approach of community journalism.

Slum Dwellers International (SDI) is a network of federations of groups, a savings of 32 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America.

For almost 30 years, SDI helps in the collection of data and the control of information, the development of advocacy strategies and improvement of the framework of urban populations in precarious areas. SDI promotes the formation of savings to community, self-management and the transfer of experiences among peers, and has become one of the most important representatives of the votes of the urban poor.

Despite the success and scope of the network of SDI, the projects of social production of habitat – with the heart of savings mobilization and community organization as a vector of local development and improvement of precarious areas – lack of visibility.

However, the institutionalization of a method of manufacture of the city inclusive and focused on the inhabitant·es is crucial to enable the improvement of the living conditions of the urban poor and countering urban dynamics speculative and exclusive. The project is the hypothesis that two-dimensional work of SDI must be strengthened : the documentation of habitat projects worn by the inhabitants and their federation (‘storytelling’), and the recognition of this mode of production to the city by public and private actors.

The project visa to increase the visibility, recognition and public support for the social production of habitat in Africa through the strengthening of the network of SDI in its activities the project documentation, sharing of experiences and policy advocacy, integrating the network fully into the Network CoHabitat.

He has contributed to the generation renewal of the movement and has opened many doors for some and some of them who now have solid skills, allowing them to develop their professional projects.
