UrbaMonde promotes the networking of actors in the Social Production of Habitat in Europe, through regional meetings and the animation of the network.
habitat collaborative attracts more and more attention across Europe, as it provides responses to the challenges related to the deficit of affordable housing, demographic change, social exclusion and spatial segregation, migration, and insecurity.
Housing models, experimental, self-directed, collaborative and non-speculative feed on a long tradition of collective habitat in some countries – notably in Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium and the netherlands.
These ancient practices are being reinvented and adapted by new initiatives, alternative and innovative participating in the fight against homelessness, the circular economy and local development.
Since 2016, UrbaMonde contributes to this dynamic promotion of the habitat collaborative, participant, exchange experiences, contributing to research projects (Co-Lab Research) and projects of advocacy, such as the program of the release of the Community Land Trust in Europe driven by the CLT, Brussels, and the Metropolis of Lille (SHICC : Sustainable housing for inclusive and cohesive cities).
Symposium of housing co-operatives, Switzerland
In 2022, urbaMonde participated in the Symposium of cooperative housing, Zurich, and has co-organized a side-event dedicated to the student cooperatives in Geneva. This event has proposed a two-day forum and workshop, as well as tours of housing co-operatives student. This meeting was the starting point towards the creation of a future federation of housing co-ops for students·es at an international level.
The World Urban Forum, 11, Poland – Habitat Village
In 2022, urbaMonde and its Network partners CoHabitat met in Katowice for the World Urban Forum organized by un-Habitat. A space created by urbaMonde, dubbed the “Habitat Village”, was the work and the success of the Network partners in the promotion and defence of the habitat participatory, while constituting an important meeting point between the actors·directors of housing, interested in collaborative practices and the right to adequate housing.
We also got our first senegalese partners of long standing, urbaSEN and the Senegalese Federation of the Inhabitants, who presented their projects Nurseries, Urban and City FSH, at the French Pavilion.
ISHF 2022, Finland – Collaborative Housing Day
For the edition 2022 at the International Festival of Social Housing, held in Helsinki from 14 to 17 June, Housing Europe has prompted urbaMonde to repeat the event on the habitat participatory organised in the margin of the last ISHF in Lyon in 2019. As an organization, the coordinator of the Network CoHabitat, and with the support of World Habitat and CHI, urbaMonde has been able to offer a full day of knowledge sharing and networking opportunities around the Social Production of Habitat.
This special day has strengthened the promotion of participative housing in Europe, a key element for ensuring the right to adequate housing and the right to the city, while integrating capita·es at the centre of the processes that shape their habitat and their city. The kick-off was given with a few words of introduction of representative⸱es of Housing Europe, the City of Helsinki, World Habitat and Habitat International Coalition.
In the margins of this event, tours of the three housing projects participatory local events were organized by urbaMonde with the support of Salla Korpela, an activist of the participative housing in Helsinki.
European meeting 2019, Lyon, France – Rethinking affordable housing by and for the inhabitant·es

The European Day of the Habitat Collaborative was held on June 5, 2019 in the framework of the International Social Housing Festival (ISHF) in Lyon, france.
The Day is organized around public roundtables, working sessions and the launch of French Citizens ‘ Initiative “Housing For All” in the presence of Leilani Farha, Special Rapporteur of the United Nations for the Right to Housing. The Day brought together more than 150 participants from fifteen countries.
European meeting 2017, Berlin, Germany
Partners : id22 – Institute for creative sustainability, World Habitat
From 6 to 8 October, urbaMonde and id22 : institute for creative sustainability co-organized the second European Meeting of the Habitat Collaborative in the framework of EXPERIMENTDAYS in Berlin. EXPERIMENTDAYS is a platform for ideas and exchange, bringing together the projects of habitats cooperative and collaborative, as well as of actors involved in the production of spaces of life, sustainable and inclusive.
In this year 2017, more than 150 participants from 19 countries were present to share their experiences on the multiple dimensions of the inclusion and of the habitat co-op over 16 workshops, plenary sessions, film screenings, tours, projects, and reading sessions.
The Meeting 2017 has triggered the creation of the MOBA bringing together housing projects collaborative and cooperative drivers of the 6 countries of Central Europe and Is seeking to accelerate the development of housing collaborative in the sub-region.
European meeting 2016, Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium

The first european Meeting of the habitat collaborative took place on 30 and 31 may 2016 in Belgium. In a first-day strategic trade, about 35 members of the main european networks of habitat collaborative representative of initiatives based on the model of Community Land Trusts, co-operative housing, habitat, habitat participatory, etc ; holders of local projects (habitat phase formation and consolidation) as well as researchers came together. The participant·es have had the opportunity to visit the Community Land Trust Brussels and exchange it with the inhabitant·es.
A second day was devoted to presentations of the four projects, the winners and the prize for the european habitat collaborative. It was organized in the framework of the 7th edition of the Salon of the habitat every year it brings together about 200 projects holders habitat, the professional·the domain of the habitat, the representative·es of local governments and non-profit organizations.
