The name that we had chosen in 2011, urbaMonde, is very ambitious. It reflects the centrality that we attach to the theme of the habitat, and at the global level, there is nothing that this !
However, the theme of the habitat, and in particular the issue of housing, remains a poor cousin of the international cooperation despite the observations supported the effects of the health crisis, climate change and the inflation : the housing is a key factor for the health, education, and access to a decent income.
We are a small team, as this report shows, is the witness of the constant efforts and immeasurable (which indicator could account for ?) made each day by the organizations capita·es with which urbaMonde collaborates and exchanges for several years.
Organize to collectively build housing – what we call the Social Production of housing in Latin America – is an obstacle course lined with a marathon, which require skills, a creative, an obstinacy on the part of the organizations with which we share our beliefs and who we trust.
We learn all the days of their solutions and their strategies (the famous ” resilience “), to thwart the dirty tricks that arise on the way to the realization of their projects. The forms of organization, the legal frameworks, the ways of constructing, modes of life are not frozen in pre-established models, as it would be to generalize.
On the contrary, the autonomy of thought of these organizations generates a wealth of inventions, social, economic, and technical which fill us with admiration.
What are these thousands of people that this report is dedicated with all our friendship across languages and borders.
